Developing Our Leadership and Beef Knowledge

ree

This year, the BMT has introduced workshops into our biweekly meetings with the goal of providing additional education opportunities within the team, and to promote team building. We have had a great variety of workshops from our upperclassmen members thus far, with everything from team Kahoot games to informational sessions on equipment or management techniques. Last week, Ben K and Maryn provided a presentation and demonstrations of different cattle handling tools and how to use them. They covered things from proper use of sorting sticks, to using dogs and horses to handle cattle. Prior to that, Ben S and Austin provided a workshop on the use of implants, covering things like the different types, where to put them, when to use them, and why you might use them. Our first meeting back this spring, Kyla made a game for the team to play, based on the popular game Headbands. Members had a card with the name of something from the beef industry, and without knowing what they had they had to find their “match” by charades and descriptions. It was fun team building!

These workshops have been a great addition to our meetings, as it allows each of our members to share with the team something they have special interest and knowledge about, continuing the educational aspect of the team, along with providing great opportunities for team building and working together outside of our usual meeting business. We are looking forward to seeing what other special topics our members will present on in our future meetings, and hope to continue our workshops as a regular addition to our meetings!
